Autism is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by delayed language development, social skills impairment and abnormal behaviour. Autism is reaching epidemic proportions, afflicting approximately 1 in 166 children.
Given the potency of cord blood CD34+ cells to induce angiogenesis in areas of cerebral hypo perfusion, this cell type may be particularly useful for the treatment of Autism. Stem cell therapy offers great promise for the treatment of Autism with the combined use of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and cord blood.
